Cakes By Marcella

Q. Do you offer tastings? How many people can I bring with me?

A. Yes, Cakes by Marcella offers a complimentary tasting and wedding cake consultation for you and a guest. Although cake tasting is an element of your event that often times the whole family is eager to be a part of, we've found it's a bit difficult to focus with too much input! Our studio can accommodate a total of three guests. Arrangements must be made in advance for more than two so we are sure to have enough cake for you.

Q. Is there a charge for the consultation? How long can we expect to be there?

A. There is no fee for tastings. An hour is set-aside for each client, which has proven to be ample time to both design and taste our cakes. Often, appointments are scheduled before and after yours so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour.

Please keep in mind that cake samples are prepared specifically for your appointment. I ask for the courtesy of 48 hours notice if your appointment needs to be rescheduled. Cancellations without the appropriate notice will be subject to a fee of $25 in order to rebook the appointment.

Q. What do I need to bring to our appointment?

A. It is helpful to have made venue, color and floral decisions prior to our meeting so I have that information available. Additionally, any element from your event that you feel we can draw inspiration from is great to bring as well. Pictures of your dress, venue, your invitations or design motif… a monogram, color swatches… it can all be helpful.

Q. What Can I Expect To Pay For A Wedding Cake? Do you have a price list?

A. On average, a wedding cake costs $3.50 - $4.75 per slice, depending on the design and size as well as a few more factors. However, I do not have a general price list because each cake is one-of-a-kind. Most custom cakes (party cakes) are priced per person; smaller orders (typically, anything under 75 servings) are priced per project.

Before you arrive for your consultation, it is helpful to have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake. This will give us a better sense of what I can design for you.

Q. Do I have to make a deposit to reserve my wedding date? If so, how much is it and can I get a refund, if necessary?

A. Yes, you will need to make a $100 deposit to reserve your wedding date on my calendar. I ask that you be absolutely certain that you would like to work with me, as all deposits and payments are date specific and non-refundable.

Q. I am not ready to make design decisions yet but I want to reserve our date so you don't get booked up, is that possible?

A. Yes. You may reserve your date with a $100 deposit. Final arrangements just need to be made at least two months prior to your event. Again, I ask that you be absolutely certain that you would like to work with me, as all deposits and payments are date specific and non-refundable.

Q. How far in advance should I order a cake?

A. I am often booked up many weeks ahead of time so the sooner the better to reserve your place on our calendar. I require a minimum of one month for party cakes, but for weddings I suggest a minimum of six months to one year.

I definitely attempt to accommodate last minute requests if my schedule allows. Please call to find out my availability for your particular date.

Q. Do you make individual cakes, cupcakes and decorated cookies?

A. Yes. I do custom designed mini cakes often, starting at $5-7.50 per person. Cupcakes and cookies start at $3.75 each. Please contact me for additional information.

Q. If I want fresh flowers on my cake how can that be arranged?

A. Once we decide on a cake design, I will coordinate directly with your florist to arrange for your cake flowers to be delivered to your wedding reception.

Q. Do you make sugar free or vegan cakes?

A. I currently do not make sugar free or vegan cakes.
